Raku Pottery Class

Students will make 6-8 pieces over the course of two days to be fired using the raku technique. Raku firing is an ancient Japanese ceramics technique where glazed ceramics are taken out of the kiln while still hot and then placed in a flammable material such as sawdust or newspaper. This results in some areas of the piece having a matte black coloring from the lack of oxygen. Firing will take place outside at instructor’s home. Therefore, firing dates will be chosen based on participant’s schedules and weather conditions. All materials are provided.
