Maple, Music, & Phenology
April 6 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Learn all about traditional maple syruping, join the all-day jam session, and take a phenology hike!
Join us at the Forest History Center to learn how trees are tapped, what maple sap tastes like, and how to boil the sap to turn it into syrup. While the boil is happening, partake of music around the fire! Hear tunes from the past, and even join in as the maple sap boils. Visitors of all musical abilities are welcome and encouraged to bring your own instrument along!
While you’re waiting for the sap to boil, you can join a guided phenology hike with local phenologist John Latimer as you look for seasonal changes taking place out in the woods. Perhaps you’ll find a marsh marigold, a migrating duck, or even a hepatica blossom!
You’ll also get a chance to see our draft horses in action, as they haul sap through the woods. This event is included in regular site admission.
