Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration

October 14 @ 11:00 am - 6:00 pm

On Monday, October 14, the Grand Rapids community will gather to celebrate Indigenous people, community, and culture on the Old Central School lawn. The event is free to attend, and all are welcome. The day will begin with a program coordinated by ISD #318 Anishinaabe Gikinoo’amaadiwin that is open to school children from all neighboring districts. Samsoche Sampson and a group of young dancers will lead a demonstration of hoop dancing, which is a traditional form of storytelling through dance, and attendees will have a chance to try their hand at hoop dancing. The student program will end with a round dance, and lunch will be provided.

Beginning at 1 pm, the community is invited to an afternoon of free events and activities on the Old Central School lawn and MacRostie Art Center. Throughout the day attendees can stop by
